I developed this character with my wife, Charlet Chung (whose Japanese name is Chie), since many of the challenges that Chie faces are based on Charlet’s real-life experiences. Our hope is that Chie is a part of our legacy that will inspire our daughter to believe that anything is possible. Genesis not only lays the foundation of who Chie is but also captures the magic moment when she falls in love with basketball – as she watches the GOAT hit the Last Shot.
CHIE Chapter 1: Genesis
CHIE Chapter 2: strongHER
strongHER is the first opportunity to get an in-depth look into who Chie is. We witness as she endures a wounding experience, for which she has a visceral yet honest response, but ultimately channels her pain into a powerful, motivating force.
CHIE Chapter 3: givHER
Rooted in an unwavering sense of justice, Chie’s courage and strength are on full display in givHER. Ultimately, it’s her compassion for those who are less fortunate that shines through as she puts the needs of others above her own (and even allowing space in her heart for grace and redemption for a bully who’s hurt others).
CHIE Chapter 4: HELLO WORLD
HELLO WORLD is our first glimpse of Chie as an adult. However, the introduction is bittersweet as we witness the hate she encounters simply because of the color of her skin. Yet, she endures… eventually turning a deeply, wounding experience into a profound rebirth.
